The 19th-century young widow Eva oversees a secluded winter fishing post in an Arctic bay inherited after her husband Magnus perished in a shipwreck. The outpost confronts a difficult winter with limited supplies due to a snow-bound mountain trip separating it from the closest hamlet. Eva and her crew, led by helmsman Ragnar, have resorted to eating bait as their haul has decreased. One morning, they spot a shipwreck at the Teeth. Due to their limited supplies, Eva grudgingly agrees to leave the survivors to face their fate.

Eva later takes the crew on a perilous nocturnal quest for additional supplies after a barrel of salt pork from the ship washes up on shore. They find a container with brandy and lamp oil, but they also come upon desperate survivors who are clinging to the cliffs.

Chaos erupts as the survivors try to board the crew’s little boat, leading to violence and Ragnar’s death. Despite their efforts, they return with few possessions and a growing sense of despair.

Disaster strikes again when the fish stores disappear and Helga vanishes after a brief respite with a successful haul.

At the graveyard, the crew finds her trail leading to an empty coffin. Overcome by delusions and paranoia, violent altercations erupt among the surviving members.

Eva decides to confront the drunkard to put an end to the emerging threat.

Helga is discovered frozen to death, and another crew member is killed in the fog-covered graveyard as a result of Eva’s hunt.

A possessed Daníel attacks and then kills himself back at the cabin. After that, Eva runs into the draugr, who pulls her into a last altercation.

The flashback reveals the truth about The Damned movie (January 2025 Film): the drunkard was a desperate shipwreck survivor. He pleaded for Eva’s life in Basque and promised her a gold pocket watch.

Jamie Hannigan authored the screenplay, and Thordur Palsson directed the The Damned movie (january 2025 Film). Alongside John Keville and Conor Barry of Wild Atlantic Pictures and Netop Films, Emilie Jouffroy and Kamilla Hodol produced for Elation Pictures. Ish and Ley Line Entertainment is also represented by producers Tim Headington, Theresa Steele Page, and Nate Kamiya.

Thordur Palsson is the writer and director of The Damned movie (january 2025 Film), a folk horror movie that was co-produced internationally in 2024. The film’s main actors are Joe Cole, Odessa Young, and Rory McCann; Lewis Gribben and Turlough Convery play supporting parts. The plot, set in the 19th century, centers on a widow who must make a difficult choice during a hard winter when a shipwreck threatens to exhaust the village’s limited supplies.

I’ve watched most of Joe Cole’s films on Amazon Prime and have been a fan for a few years. He performed brilliantly in “Peaky Blinders” as well. Since it wasn’t available for internet streaming, I bought the Blu-ray DVD of The Offender featuring Joe Cole. However, since I just have a standard DVD player, I might need to get a Blu-ray DVD player. When I saw the “The Damned movie (january 2025 Film)” preview, I was overjoyed. I enjoy history, in addition to being a fan of scary and horror films.

The film’s plot was excellent, with few characters to follow and an easy plotline to follow. The terrible living conditions of the dark ages were depicted in the film, but it also showed the empathy of having to decide whether to assist someone in a dire situation. I can relate to the paranormal aspects of death, which emphasize the harshness of the years that have passed in a short period. It encapsulated the custom of how every society handles death and how superstition emerges when confronted with what may be viewed as evil, particularly when a religious leader isn’t present to offer protection. Fantastic film. Since other theatres weren’t showing the film, it was even necessary to trek to the Mall of Georgia.

The great majority of the horror films I watch are, at best, mediocre and, more often, a waste of time. I was surprised by this one. Amazingly evocative, tense, and occasionally quite frightening, with a dash of unexpected social satire. In addition to the immersive sound design in theatres, which included creaking floorboards and the scream of icy wind, I could smell the damp wood of their fishing boat. The Substance and This are the two best films I’ve seen this year, although they are very different. If it helps you understand my tastes, some of my other semi-recent favorites are Barbarian, Late Night with the Devil, and When Evil Lurks.

The following day, when bodies from the wreck wash up on the shore, strange things begin to happen. One dead person’s stomach is found to contain live eels. The crew becomes wary of Nordic folklore concerning draugr, revenant creatures of wrath. They take precautions to prevent their appearance. Eva begins to have vivid dreams and sees glimpses of a dark figure, despite superstitious Helga’s warnings that the dragon must be destroyed to put an end to its misery.

Indeed, it was encouraging. I enjoyed the plot and the growing sense of dread and suspense. It was good, aside from the end. It resembled an incomplete tale. I have no idea what the end was about. The story was moving in one direction until it abruptly veered to the left at the final second. Since it didn’t tie together nearly any of the plot points, it isn’t the same as a twist ending. It might have remained predictable, had a predictable conclusion, and still been a good film with an intriguing idea. It wasn’t the finest decision, in my opinion, to stop the story so abruptly.

It’s kind of disappointing. But if I were the director, I would surely give it another go. Many positive things were said about it. Even the “jump scares” and the sound and cinematography impressed me. I suppose you could say the “monster reveals” rather than the sporadic fire portions. Overall, there was potential, and there was so much to enjoy about the film that I wouldn’t consider it a complete failure. I would say that 3/5 is about fair.

I only give it a two-star rating. I wouldn’t mind at all if it were only one star. It was a very lackluster show.

The first thirty minutes consisted solely of an introduction. After that, it started to get a little intriguing, with a few sequences that were passable but nothing more.

There was little backstory, the location was somewhat dull, and not much happened. Simply put, the conclusion was weak, uninteresting, and did not keep you on the edge of your seat. It was a 90-minute movie, but based on what I remember, it was barely five minutes long. I wouldn’t advise it. I think it’s among the worst “horror” or “mystery” flicks I’ve ever seen. Both time and money can be saved.
